This is a year of hope fulfilled; that was a phrase given us at the start of the year. It’s important for us to hear and take hold of what Holy Spirit is saying. We need to be anchored to it. Anchors hold us in place when everything else is going crazy.
So, what promise of God have you seen in His Word and grabbed hold of with your hope? A lot of people just leave God’s Word dormant and think it may not apply to us because it’s just too good a promise…we think we’re not worthy to receive is.
“What promise of God have you seen in His Word and grabbed hold of with your hope?”
“[Now] we have this [hope] as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it — a hope] that reaches farther and enters into [the very certainty of the Presence] within the veil,” – HEBREWS 6:19 (AMPC)
My hope is an anchor to my soul: my mind, my will and my emotions. Despite what we see going on around us, we need to purpose to hold onto those promises. It’s easy to hold onto God’s promises when everything’s going well, but when something 100% opposite happens, are you still going to hold onto your hope?
We get disappointed in our hope when we put our hope in man; but God will not disappoint. He does not relinquish His promises to you. Placing your hope in God is the anchor to your soul! It’s because His love for you never fails, cannot slip and cannot break down.
“Placing your hope in God is the anchor to your soul!”
Last week, I talked about vision. Vision and hope are linked together. But think about it: Faith comes by hearing, hope comes through vision (seeing the promise), and love comes from knowing God on an intimate love (not just mentally).
If you don’t have Love, you are not truly a follower of Christ. If you’re born again, your spirit has been changed to be just like Jesus. In you, you have all the capacity to live in the power and love that Jesus operated on here in this earth. 1 Corinthians 13 reminds us that God’s Love never fails.
That word “fail” literally means “to be driven from one’s course.” God has never been driven from His course to get back in relationship with us! Regardless of all the obstacles we put in HIs way, He isn’t driven off course.
“Fail” also means “to lose or become inefficient; to be of none effect.” That certainly doesn’t apply to God! He’s always efficient; He’s always on-time and right for you. He’s always full of Love…so let’s see how love acts:
“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” – 1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-7 (NKJV)
Notice that Love not only suffers long, but is also kind. That kindness is being expressed to those who are causing you to suffer long! It’s not two separate events to different people. It’s not that you suffer along with one person but kind to another. You’re kind to people who are making you suffer.
Love is never driven from its course while it’s enduring everything.
Great examples showing Love lived in reality are found in the Gospels about Jesus. He displays all of these characteristics. He walked in love all the time because He wasn’t focused on His business and His agenda…He was all about Father God’s business.
The power of God flows from Who he is – Love – not what He has available. Healing, forgiveness, love and compassion all flow through Him because He is Love. He’s not healing. He’s not forgiveness. Those are byproducts of Love.
Over and over again in the Gospels, you see where Jesus was moved with compassion for someone.
Jesus was here on earth because of Love. He wasn’t here because He just had to be here as Jesus; He needed to be here because Love needed to be here. John 3:16 says God so loved the world that He gave…
So why are we here on earth? If we’re to be like Him, to look like Him, guess what we’re to be? Love. It’s a vital sign of being a believer in Christ. You can’t give what you don’t have!
God’s already expressed His Love for you by giving His Son Jesus. Now we’re to walk in the image of God to fill the earth and subdue it. Genesis 1:27-28 tells us that God created man in His own image.
We were created to house God. He fills us with life so that when someone comes around us, we can give them life! We can do that with confidence because we have relationship with Him; we know Him and know that He love us.
We need to be Love to others, not just talk Love. If we just preach a doctrine or theology, it won’t change anything. But if we become Love, it will change everything!
