Jesus has redeemed us; He has set us free and has called us by name! He’s set you free from the law of shame and guilt, and He’s set you free from your past.
So I have a question for you…are you free?
If Jesus truly redeemed us, let’s walk in that freedom! If we’re free from guilt and shame and our past, what has God set us free to?
“Now the “lord” I’m referring to is the Holy Spirit, and wherever He is Lord, there is freedom.” – 2 CORINTHIANS 3:17 (TPT)
If you want freedom in any area of your life, you must make the Holy Spirit Lord over that area. If you’re not experiencing freedom in an area of your life, you need to ask yourself, “Have I made the Holy Spirit Lord over that area?”
We maintain lordship in certain areas of our life, and then blame God that we aren’t free in those areas. Sometimes people get caught up in all the worries and stresses of the world (thinking the solution is all up to them) while still saying Jesus is Lord over their life.
We have to stand in belief that we truly are redeemed, fighting the thought that we somehow have to do something to earn that freedom. See what the Apostle Paul tells the Romans:
“Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise, work is no longer work.” – ROMANS 11:5-6 (NKJV)
So if we exist in God’s grace, what are we called to? Galatians 5:13 provides some insight.
Freedom to Serve!
“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” – GALATIANS 5:13
Yes, we have freedom! But God didn’t call us to abuse that freedom; He didn’t set us free so we can run around doing whatever we want. Remember, Christians have made Jesus Christ LORD and that means that we voluntarily use the freedom we have to do what God would want us to do…which is to serve and to love others.
Serving in God’s kingdom is really how we’ll experience true freedom! Remember, wherever the Holy Spirit is Lord, there’s freedom. God wants us to love and serve others; so when we yield to the lordship of God by doing His will, we experience true freedom!
As we yield to His lordship, we draw near to Him. We see more how much He loves us and has adopted us as His own children! We realize that he bought us out of slavery and brought us into His kingdom as His heirs!
The more we yield to God’s lordship – the closer we get to Him – the more we realize just how free we truly are!
