Empowered by the Holy Spirit to Heal

The more I study and pray about healing, the more confident and assure I am that healing is the will of God and that it’s already been provided for us.

And no contradiction to God’s Word and no circumstance is going to change God’s opinion of us and alter that will of God.  Even the circumstances or situations that perhaps you put yourself in – through bad decisions or whatever you’ve done – doesn’t change God’s opinion of you.  I like how the Mirror Bible puts it:

“The prayer environment of faith shall restore the feeble.  The Lord revitalizes and quickens you; He has already forgiven you of anything stupid you might have done to have caused the situation.” – JAMES 5:15 (MIRROR)

Remember, we don’t walk by sight, sense and circumstance; we walk by faith.  We aren’t Circumstancers…we’re Believers.

We aren’t Circumstancers…we’re Believers!

Circumstances will come and go, but they will try to drag you to places where you don’t want to go; but, belief will hold you stable on the Rock.  People have a tendency to ask God for things, but we think there might be a “No” as an answer because we’re asking for it.  But healing has already been provided, so we don’t need to ask Him for it.

1 John 3:8 reminds us that “the reason the Son of God was revealed was to undo and destroy the works of the devil.”  The word “revealed” means “set free” or “loosed”.

Think about a dog on a leash.  Suddenly, that dog sees a rabbit and it starts pulling on the leash, wanting to chase after the rabbit.  What happens when you let loose the leash?  There is one mission on that dog’s mind: to get that rabbit!

I picture Jesus next to His Father in Heaven telling His Dad, “When’s it my time, Father?  Let’s go!  Let’s go!  The enemy’s had too much free reign.  Let me at him!”

See, under the old covenant – before Jesus came to earth – healing was conditional.  It was, “If you do this, God will do that.”  But when Jesus came to earth and sacrificed Himself for our sin, that sacrifice was unconditional.  Jesus was loosed to destroy the works of the devil, and one of those works is sickness!  Jesus doesn’t just go after the devil gently; He pursues him as King of kings and Lord of lords!

We have to remember that even before Jesus went to the Cross, He was pursuing sickness and healing people…who were still under the old (conditional) covenant!  Time and again He healed people.  Why?  It was the showing of God’s goodness and grace to people who didn’t deserve to be healed just how much Jesus wanted to heal!

Jesus never asked someone to become sinless before He healed them.  He healed people and then said, “Go and sin no more.”

Jesus was empowered by the Holy Spirit to heal.  We know this because of what Acts 10:38 says:

“And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power.  Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” – ACTS 10:38 (NLT)

He was empowered and loosed to heal…and He did!  1 Peter 2:24 reminds us, Jesus “Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness — by whose stripes you were healed.”  That’s past tense.  It’s our responsibility to receive what He’s done and thank Him for it!

Healing is not something we have to pursue; it’s something He’s already given us.  Let’s not wait for God to “do something”; let’s thank Him for what He’s already done!
