In December, as I prayed, God clearly spoke to me about 2022 and the direction of our church. He said that 2022 was our year of Breakthrough!
Everyone has areas of their life where they need a breakthrough. Whether it be healing, finances, breaking addiction, overcoming depression, having your marriage healed, finding the right job or something else, it’s important to realize that God has your BREAKTHROUGH already planned!
God of the Breakthrough!
“19 So David inquired of the LORD, saying, ‘Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?’ And the LORD said to David, ‘Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.’ 20 So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, ‘The LORD has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.’ Therefore he called the name of that place Baal Perazim.” – 2 SAMUEL 5:19-20 (NKJV)
“Baal Perazim” means “The God of the Breakthrough!” This is what God does! He breaks through the enemy’s line for you, defeats them, and then calls it your victory!
Let’s look back at these verses. Notice that David inquired upon the Lord; he asked God what he should do. He didn’t just do something and then ask God to help fix it or “turn it for good.”

Inquiring upon the Lord is a significant first step. If we were to do that every day, we would save ourselves tons of heartache. David started on the right foot by inquiring upon God and then trusting God to do what He said He would do.
Also notice that there was still a battle David had to go through; verse 20 says David defeated the Philistines there. It doesn’t say God wiped them out, and that David did nothing. The promises of God point to our potential, but they require our participation!
This year, 2022, is OUR YEAR OF BREAKTHROUGH! Everyone at Hope City, get ready…breakthrough is yours!! In the midst of a trial, get ready! In the face of contradiction, get ready! When everything seems to be going against you, get ready! BREAKTHROUGH IS COMING!
Now is not the time to shrink back in fear or faint in the fight! Remind yourself the words of Hebrews 10:39 (The Passion Translation): “But we are certainly not those who are held back by fear and perish; we are among those who have faith and experience true life!’
We hold fast to what we know to be true! God is on our side, and it doesn’t matter who is against us!
