“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His Word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” – PSALMS 107:19-20 (NKJV)
When you read these verses, it’s pretty obvious with what it says. When the people cried out to the Lord, they were in trouble! And God saved them out of their trouble.
Trouble wasn’t somewhere in the far distance; it was evident to them. The same thing can be said about today…trouble seems to be evident everywhere people go. You may have experienced some of the trouble and you may have even questioned why you’ve experienced the trouble!
Too often, some Christians have a wrong concept about trouble…and when it happens, they go to God and say, “Wait a minute! I thought I wasn’t supposed to have any problems!”
In Psalms 107:19-20, it’s clear that people were in trouble, but it’s also clear that the Lord saved them. He sent His Word and healed them and delivered them from their destruction! He completely set them free!
There are two ditches people get into; if something bad happens to them, they 1) question God because they think Christians should never have trouble, or 2) they think that they must have done something wrong to cause it.
Let’s look at one of the most misinterpreted scriptures in the Bible (which contains one of the most idiotic questioned asked Jesus by His disciples)”
“Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ Jesus answered, ‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. I must work the works of Him Who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.’” – JOHN 9:1-4 (NKJV)
First off, how stupid was the disciples’ question? The man was born blind! How could he have sinned before he was even born? Did he kick his mom too hard in the womb? Did he think about robbing a bank? What could he have possibly done in his mother’s womb to sin so he was born blind?!
Jesus told us in John 16:33 that in this life we’ll have trouble – things are going to come and that’s just the way it is – but to take heart because He has overcome the world!
Regardless of the disciples foolish question, take a look at Jesus’ response.
Contrary to popular belief, when Jesus said, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him, I must work the works of Him Who sent Me…” – He was not saying that God put blindness on the man so that Jesus could heal him. There are too many other scriptures that prove that God doesn’t do that to people.
“Jesus was NOT saying that God put blindness on the man so that He could heal him.”
The word translated “but” by some is actually the Greek word “alla” which reads “nevertheless”. That truth changes the whole structure of the sentence! The phrase “but that” in the Greek means “nevertheless in order to” or “in order that”. Jesus was saying, “In other words, in order that for this man to be healed, I must work the work of Him Who sent Me!”
In this time of worldwide pandemic and challenge, affected Christians need to not be asking themselves, “What did I do? How did I miss it? Why did this happen to me? I’ve been believing God and confessing His Word every day over my life!”
Instead, we should receive by faith the fact that God sent His Word! God’s Word will change our circumstances if we’re not depriving it of force and authority, making it of no effect by what we incorrectly believe!
