I had the pleasure of being the officiating minister for the marriage of Tobi and Miranda Hernandez in Saltillo many years ago. The pastor of Iglesia Semillero del Maestro in Saltillo, Mexico, Tobi and Miranda were back in the USA recently, and he had the opportunity to minister at Hope City Church.
We had just started a new series – The Time Has Come! – and he had some great perspective on TIME and the use of it.
Here’s the core verse for the series:
“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” – GALATIANS 4:4-5 (NKJV)
Time is something we all – as human beings – have in common, he said. “God has given us this time to use it in the best way we can.” Time’s a gift God has given us all; whether we’re rich or poor, a certainly nationality or culture, an hour is still an hour, a day is a day, a year is a year.
We’re all living in time. But for some people, it’s a crazy and fearful time; for others, not so much. Still for others, it’s a prophetic time. “Depending on the knowledge you have – and the hunger for God’s Word you have – you’ll be able to discern the time.”
Time moves us; how do we respond to that? Old Testament prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah and Daniel talk about time a lot. The coming of Jesus to earth was ordained for a specific time. The Father God said, “Son, it’s time!” and Jesus came with a specific mission…to redeem all of us who were under the law.
At the same time, there was a lot of confusion. Yet, Jesus came at the perfect time.
“I believe we’re living at the perfect time,” Pastor Tobi said. “We have to enjoy this time” and yet discern the time and live it out. “We have to have knowledge and understanding.”
God’s Word says that His people perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). We need to know God’s Word so we can live out this perfect time in which we exist. One day, we will die physically…
“The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” – PSALMS 90:10 (NKJV)
How will we utilize the time we have?
“Since his days are determined, the number of his months is with You; You have appointed his limits, so that he cannot pass. Look away from him that he may rest, till like a hired man he finishes his day. For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender shoots will not cease.” – JOB 14:5-7 (NKJV)
We have a limit on our time. Christians should always be thinking – because of the times in which we live – we will some day either fly away or die. One day, THIS time will end. Are we putting our passion into what is temporary or what is eternal?
It’s a good thing to meditate on…then act.
I really encourage you to hear Tobi’s full message; it will get you thinking and give you a better understanding of time and our life within in!
